Friday Options

Friday 5th Nov. Options

Option 1: A round trip of near 250 km to Wilson’s Promontory. This will involve some walking.   PLEASE BOOK to give the organisers numbers.

Lunch – make your own arrangements.

This can be combined with Option 3 below – a visit to the Latreille house which is just off the return route.    PLEASE ALSO BOOK THIS.

Option 2:  A scenic drive of around 130 km through South Gippsland to lunch at a local winery and return.    LUNCH MUST BE BOOKED AND PAID for with entry.    This could also be combined         with Option 3  – a visit to the Latreille House with an additional 80 km driving or with Option 4  – a visit to the State Coal Mine with an additional 20 km. PLEASE ALSO BOOK one of these if required.

Option 3: Peter Latreille has invited members to visit his South Walkerville house 3 PM onward, where a cup of tea or coffee or a glass of wine might be found.   No doubt a bottle of red would be appreciated here.    This is just off the return route from Wilson’s Prom.     Although there is no charge, PLACES SHOULD BE BOOKED to give Peter numbers.

Option 4:   Alternately Option 2, the scenic drive and lunch, could be coupled with a visit to the State Coal Mine at Wonthaggi which produced black coal for the railways from 1910 to 1968.    It is a very interesting visit involving a little walking.    This would add about 20 km.       Unfortunately underground mine tours are not possible at the present time due to maintenance and there is only a moderate chance that it will be operating at the time of our visit but the above-ground tour is very interesting in itself.    There is no charge for this, but there will be a charge of about $20, payable on the day, for the underground tour if operating.    BOOKING IS REQUIRED to give numbers for the above-ground tour.
